Today’s children and teens grow up in a difficult and perplexing world. The rapid changes taking place in society often leave parents, youth workers, and educators baffled and confused. Those struggling to raise and relate to today’s young people want and need help understanding the complex and rapidly changing world of youth culture.

In fact, many who care about teenagers have found themselves concerned about the effects that media have on them.  Parents, youth workers, and educators have felt a need to monitor and control those effects.  Parents especially want to know what music videos their kids are watching, which video games they’re spending time with, and what they’re getting from the T.V. programs they watch.  All too often, this sets us up on one side as the media police and our teens on the other side, trying to get some space and freedom.  It becomes an uncomfortable position for all.
